Not Your Average MBA

You see, before business school, I didn’t have the normal 9-5 gig. I attended New York University for Vocal Performance/Musical Theater and was lucky enough to perform around the US and surrounding countries for almost four years. In between gigs, I produced my own cabaret series around Manhattan to help give my friends work while allowing me to keep up with my craft. But, the excitement of managing and putting on my own shows culminated with a heart to heart backstage at a 54 Below show I was producing. A friend of mine from undergrad, who just got accepted to an MBA program, convinced me to take the plunge. I haven’t looked back since.

In undergrad, I was used to 8 AM tap classes, so the first few quarters of my MBA were difficult. But, I knew that the skills I’d acquire would help me land a summer internship at an entertainment company. I was excited to see what my summer internship had in store for me and was happy with the interview process. Then, the world turned upside and started the myriad of emails from entertainment firms that bared the bad news of cancelation or postponement of their internship programs due to COVID-19. I was of course, severely disappointed and rightfully so. I worked hard, sacrificed a lot, and had nothing to show for it. Then one day a thought popped into my head-“Maybe I can use my new found business knowledge to help someone out? Maybe I can help out the industry I came from- theater. But, most importantly Broadway.”

Funny enough, I’m not actually in New York- I’m over 1,000 miles south in Miami, Florida. I packed up my car and moved here in August of 2019 to achieve my MBA at the University of Miami Herbert Business School, where I’m specializing in sports, media, and entertainment. Currently, I’m Co-President of SEMS (Sports, Media, and Entertainment Society) at Miami Herbert as well as one of the 10 student organizers for the Reaching Out MBA Conference (ROMBA). ROMBA connects LGBTQ+ MBAs with major corporations to bring queer voices to the boardroom. I’m excited to be leading the entertainment track at the conference this Fall. Learn more about the conference here: www.reachingoutmba.org.

In regards to corporate work, I’ve been hired at major organizations like CBSViacom all the way to non-profit theaters like the Atlantic Theater Company. See my resume for more details.
